Boy, 7, leads police to drugs stash in raid

A 7-year-old boy helped the police to find hidden drugs during a raid in which his parents were arrested yesterday. Five people were taken into custody after police swooped on a Mt Roskill Housing New Zealand home looking for opiate-based "home bake" drugs.

No jail time after fourth drink-drive conviction

A serial drunk driver caught intoxicated behind the wheel of a waste disposal truck has escaped a jail sentence for his fourth drink driving conviction. The 55-year-old truck driver from Manukau appeared in the city’s district court recently and was convicted on three charges – careless driving, driving while forbidden and driving with excess breath alcohol.

Teens enlist council help in cigarette ban

Two teenagers have helped to persuade Gisborne district councillors to throw their weight behind banning cigarette displays in shops.
Gisborne has one of the highest levels of child smokers in New Zealand, with 19 per cent of children admitting to lighting up regularly.

Police raid drug house just metres from school

Police busted a cannabis tinnie house suspected of supplying school pupils. Four people were arrested during the raid on the house, just metres from an intermediate school. Police found thousands of dollars worth of cash and cannabis after they swooped on the Pt Chevalier property.

Auckland health representatives want the controls tightened on sales of a cough and decongestant medicine used to cook up the illegal drug P. The Waitemata District Health Board yesterday voted to ask theGovernment to change the status of pseudoephedrine so that only pharmacists are permitted to sell it.
