FADE Update

Winter has been a busy time for the team at FADE. A number of resources have been revamped and we have developed some excellent new resources for our communities too.  We have continued to deliver quality services across the five communities, running workshops and giving presentations throughout New Zealand.

Teaching and Education

Keep a look out for the recently updated What Drug is That? pamphlet. The latest version of the pamphlet includes important information about Party Pills and also clarifies the law regarding these drugs. Hot off the press is the A2 sized wall poster version of  What Drug is That? This eye catching poster will make an excellent addition to any school or work place wall and provides the latest information about drugs and their effects on the body. Both of these resources will be available by contacting FADE or by ordering them from our website http://www.fade.org.nz/resources/.

Young People

FADE has recently designed and printed a pocket sized information card about party pills. This resource dispels the myth that these drugs are herbal. The z-card provides young people with concise safety information about these drugs and clearly points out that if used with alcohol or if large doses are taken there can be some alarming health effects. This is a useful resource for adults to have on hand too. Order your copies now by emailing resources@fade.org.nz or contacting the FADE office.

Industry

FADE regularly works with industry groups throughout the country. Most recently FADE has worked with BP Oil and Foodstuffs South Island assisting them to provide employees with valuable health and safety information and education.

The workshops are always developed to suit the needs of the business but often focus on the following topics:
  • What you need to know about alcohol and drugs
  • Signs and symptoms
  • How to implement alcohol and drug policies
  • Drug testing
If you are interested in holding one of these workshops at your place of work please email workshops@fade.org.nz or phone the FADE office 09 489 1719. Please note there are costs associated with these workshops.

Parents and Caregivers

Family

FADE continues to provide up-to-date information and resources for parents and caregivers. We have recently updated our Alcohol and Pregnancy pamphlet to provide vital information about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). The 9th of September is FASD World Awareness Day. People all around the world gather for events to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking during pregnancy and the plight of individuals and families who struggle with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders You can read more about this here http://www.come-over.to/FASDAY/.

FADE facilitates workshops and training sessions for parent and caregiver groups. Please contact workshops@fade.org.nz or phone the FADE office to find out more about this.

Sports

Cyclist
Check out the new Captain Pukeko interactive game developed by Drug Free Sport New Zealand to help reinforce one of their key messages Strong Enough to be Clean. The idea of the game is to get to the finish of the course and stay clean doing so. You will need to avoid getting contaminated by syringes on the way, and you will need to avoid the odd carnivorous pukeko too! Also, rocks and holes litter the course - so jump when you can.
